Y!TunnelPro V2.5 Build 498 is now available!

Y!TunnelPro V2.5 Build 498 (Beta) has been released. This version addresses recently discovered exploits, and includes several new features and enhancements.


The following changes have been made in this release to address bug reports:

  • Several critical changes have been made to handle the recent changes made by Yahoo! to their servers.
  • Stealth Mode and Cloaking have been removed. We are currently working on a new protection mechanism and expect it to be available soon.
  • Y!Tunnel no longer shuts down messenger if it's detected when Y!Tunnel starts up.
  • Y!Tunnel will no longer hang on shutdown if Yahoo! Messenger locks up.
  • Yahoo! Messenger now recognizes a user as being logged into voice after they have been unignored.
  • Usernames containing capital letters are now properly handled by the Super Iggy Bin and the Safe list.
  • Usernames containing capital letters are now properly ignored and unignored in voice.
  • "Now Playing" Broadcasts are now shown in the chatroom window when the "Now Playing" notifications are disabled.
  • Importing saved Safe Lists now uses the proper file filter in the open files dialog.
  • Marking a user as "Safe" no longer conflicts with usernames that are currently in the Super Iggy Bin or blocked by the common bot name list.
  • All offline messages that are not blocked by filtering should now be properly delivered to Yahoo! Messenger.
  • All known chat errors that are not handled by Y!Tunnel are now passed along to Yahoo! Messenger.
  • Joining a room from the recent rooms list now provides the category ID for the room you are joining.
  • The recent rooms list now stores the correct category id of the room the user has joined.
  • The chatroom handlers have been updated to recognize the gender of users provided by the new Yahoo! Chat servers.
  • The background color of individual entries in the mini-activity logger are no longer set to the color of the most recent entry.
  • The operation of the Recent Rooms List have been updated. The settings have changed to behave as follows:
    • Disabling the tracking of recent rooms no longer prompt the user to delete existing rooms as that is taken care of by disabling the 'save' between session option.
    • The recent rooms list in the chat join dialog in Yahoo! Messenger is no longer disabled if recent rooms are not tracked.
    • The button to delete all existing rooms now prompts the user for confirmation.
  • The Splash Screen now displays the day the application was created rather than the current date.



The following enhancements have been made in this release:

  • The chatroom user list has been enhanced and can now sort the list by buddy and safe status as well as change the color of the username based on buddy status, safe list, and/or gender.


    These settings can be changed in the Chatroom Enhancements (Appearance) preferences panel.
  • Added several new toolbar buttons to the PM, Conference, and Chat windows. These new buttons provide access to the following features:
    • Open Y!Tunnel Preferences
    • Open Super Iggy Bin
    • Open Safe List
    • Disable Privacy
    • Toggle Enhanced Userlist (Chatroom Only)
  • Removed spaces from BOT Challenge pass phrase to make it easier for users who do not realize the spaces are not needed.
  • The room buster preferences have been updated to allow a maximum of 100 attempts with a minimum interval of 3 seconds between each attempt.
  • You can now change the default options for globally disabling privacy settings. These settings can now be found in the 'General' privacy section of the Y!TunnelPro preferences.
  • Added an option to block personal information from being transmitted when adding another user to your buddy list. This setting can now be found in the 'General' privacy section of the Y!TunnelPro preferences.
  • Added the ability to select which Yahoo! Messenger server Y!TunnelPro connects to. This option is located in the Connection Settings preferences.
  • The diagnostics window has been updated to report all known chat errors including the error # and a description of the error.
  • Updated the Chatroom Filter preferences panel to include a description of each filter level. Also added a 'Set Default' option to reset all Chatroom Filter settings to their default values.
  • Added a confirmation warning when selecting 'Set All' in Chatroom Privacy.
  • Added a confirmation warning in the Safe List preferences panel when removing a user the list.
  • Added a confirmation warning in the recent rooms list when removing a single room or multiple rooms.
  • Added a confirmation warning when selecting 'Default' settings in Invite Privacy.
  • Added a confirmation warning when selecting 'Check All' or 'Clear all' in the preferences panel for Diagnostics settings.
  • Update the warning dialog preferences.
  • Several cosmetic issues and misspelled words have been corrected.



The following experimental features have been included in this release:

  • Added support for running multiple instances of Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 and above.

    This enhancement includes the following features:
    • Full launch order management allowing your to select from a list of existing accounts and specify the order in which they are used accessed when additional instances of Messenger are launched.
    • Launch Yahoo! Messenger using a specific user id directly from the task tray icon.
    • The tooltip shown for Yahoo! Messenger icons in the task tray now include the account id that instance of messenger is logged in with.
    • The first 6 instances of Yahoo! Messenger each have their own color scheme for the icon in the task tray.


    • The ability to completely remove an existing account from the system registry.
  • Added a simplified User Validation (CAPTCHA) entry window to eliminate the need to launch a web browser each time you enter a chatroom.


    This feature can be enabled from the Chatroom Enhancements preferences panel.
  • Added ability to capitalize names in chatrooms. Currently you can select from 4 pre-defined patterns. Future versions of this feature will include the ability to completely customize each username.
  • Added an optional globally override and change the Word Filter setting used by Yahoo! Messenger in chat. This feature addresses a bug in Yahoo! Messenger that does not correctly read the Word Filter setting from the system registry.
